First Flight in T-minus 34 hours

Even though it's 3am mere hours before our first flight out of California, I am in high spirits. Even though each of us has some sort of ailment - hubby has a painful sore throat, baby has a leaky head (nose and eyes, YUM) and I have this bizarre cold sore UNDER MY TONGUE - I have faith that we will all be all better in time for our international flight.

Our bags are not all packed (as you can see from the picture) but everything is coming along. I am feeling confident that we have enough STUFF to keep the kiddo occupied and happy during each of our long travel days via plane, train, automobile, and boat (thanks to the Dollar section at Target!), and I am coming up with a system for organizing activities, snacks, and personal items for our first leg of the trip. Plus, we only need enough clothes to get us through Japan and Singapore before we are staying with family in Indonesia and can most likely charm our way into using a washing machine. So, it's basically like the bags have packed themselves...

If I get organized enough I can post some of the organizational things I've done. But that would take organization and time, neither of which I have very much of... (constantly working on the first, the second I can't do anything about except MAXIMIZATION!)

I was at school until 8:30pm yesterday to make sure the classroom was in order so I truly feel like my students are going to be fine, and my guest teacher is going to be fine, so all I have to do is pack, PACK, clean the house, and pack. Oh, and go to sleep. Trying to get that one in seems like a fantasy at this point, but I am drinking lemon and honey tea that I infused with this amazing essential oil that will hopefully ward off any sickness that my hubby is obviously trying to infect me with by his constant BREATHING (geez, the nerve!) Again, we will definitely all be better in time for our flight. Mind over sickness. Mind > sickness.

All this being said, there will be several videos played for my students tomorrow. The combo of excitement/stress/exhaustion writes its own pass from teaching a full day with no preps. It's in my contract, obviously, so there.

Tonight I am grateful that the child is sleeping peacefully. He was just slightly too young just 5 months ago when we took a long road trip as a "trial run" in preparation for the Asia trip... he had a hard time sleeping with us in one hotel room, and neither hubby nor I got enough rest on that trip. We enjoyed the various zoo's and parks but it was very hard for all three of us when we were less-than-100-percent rested. Luckily, he's a completely different kid now, and we're also different parents now, so everything we learned last year is basically irrelevant. But in a good way! We are more confident as parents (practice, practice, practice!) and the kiddo is much better in public, more engaged socially, can COMMUNICATE (which is so freaking cool, by the way), plus he's taking solid naps and sleeping through the night for the most part. I am hopeful he will sleep well on this trip. Just in case, I am armed with various relaxing essential oils and will be stopping by a drug store to pick up other delicious medicines (We are essentially taking a medicine cabinet with us. I'd rather be safe than sorry). But, sleep or no, he will DEFINITELY be a lot of fun this time around and much easier to reason with/talk to/enjoy.

Looking forward to keeping you all up to date on our travels! T-minus 33.75 hours to go!
